Exhaust Work

As you guys all know, ground clearance on these cars is hard to come by. It’s made worse in my case by the downpipe from the turbo exiting after the forward outrigger, and the transmission taking up all the space between the frame rails. This means I can’t route it down the middle of the frame like the car came from the factory.

To combat this I ended up making my own 1.5″ high oval pipes to connect to the downpipe under the passenger floor pan. In total it hangs around 2″ down below the floor, so that’s about how much clearance I’m losing. The smarter option would probably be to do a single sidepipe, and I might still have to do that in the future. I’m not a fan of side pipes on these cars though, so I’m going to avoid that if I can.

You can see how I made the oval pipe by splitting 1.5″ pipes and putting plate down the middle. For the rear of the car, I ended up using 3″ pipe to dual 2.5″ pipes and then the muffler out the rear center. This gives me diameter equivalent to 3″+ everywhere in the car.
